The Lia Fáil or Stone of Kingship (popularly Stone of Destiny) was brought from the mystical city of Failias by the Tuatha Dé Danann. The design here is drawn from the Celtic Myth playing cards and bears an inscription on one side from a seventeenth-century poem about the Four Jewels of the Tuatha Dé that goes back at least to the fourteenth century. This quatrain runs:

The Stone Destiny from far Failias,
It would call out from under the Kings of Ireland;
The Sword of swift Lugh's hand,
From Goirias, chosen, it struck.
